Maaribetta Trek

It had been long since we last went on a bike trek. The final semester was approaching and we wanted a trek before we get lost in the maze of project work ,exams etc, etc.

We planned for a trek to Maaribetta. Maaribetta is a hill near Kanakapura, perfect for a one-day trek. It was eleven of us who left Bangalore at around 8 in the morning towards Kanakapura , 50 kms south of Bangalore. After breakfast at Kanakapura, we started enquiring the localites about Maaribetta and surprisingly none of them knew the where it was.!! After some search and guidance from some localities, we found the correct path to your trekking spot.

After travelling 4-5 kms from Kanakapura towards Ramanagara, we need to take a left and move on kuccha road to reach a small village. We parked our vehicles in one of the huts in the village and moved towards the foot of the hill. There are two hills and initially tried to climb the bigger one but it was densely covered with shrubs and there was no suitable route to the top.
We then found few local boys who obliged to be our guides for the day and took us along the smaller hill.

After the climb of the smaller hill , a few people decided not to go further and returned back to the village. Six of us descended the smaller hill at the other side and moved through the forest to reach the Durga temple. It was around 2 in the afternoon when we reached the temple.

There is a route to trek the bigger hill from the Durga temple but we could not proceed further and returned to the village through the forest route between the two hills.

Here's Pavan's Blog about the trek.
