50th Post

Yaaaayyyyyy!!! Let the celebrations begin...


50th post on my blog. A Journey that started almost two years ago with a tiny step has come a long distance. I started the blog primarily to record my trekking experience and then it has moved on to various other topics as well. I never expected my interest in writing to last so long..It feels as if Venkatesh Prasad (if you still remember him) has just scored a fifty!!

It has been a great journey so far...and a long way to go..

Keep watching this place..A lot more to come..

ಬಹಳ ದಿನಗಳಿಂದ ಓದಬೇಕಂದಿದ್ದ ಪುಸ್ತಕ. ಮಣಿಕಾಂತ್ ರವರ ಅದ್ಭುತವೆನಿಸುವ ಮೂವತೈದು ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಸಂಗ್ರಹವೇ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕ. ಒಂದೊಂದೂ ರತ್ನಗಳು. ಜೀವನ ಪಯಣಕ್ಕೆ ದಾರಿ ದೀವಿಗೆಯಂತಿದೆ. ಸೋಲನ್ನು ಮೆಟ್ಟಿ ನಿಂತ ಜನರ ಕಥೆಗಳು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿದಾಯಕ. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಕಂಬನಿ ತರಿಸುವ, ಹಾಗೆ ಮರುಕ್ಷಣ ಕಚುಗುಳಿ ಇಡುವ, ಗಾಢ ಆಲೋಚನೆಗೆ ದಾರಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಪಾಠ ಹೇಳಿ ಹೋಗುವ ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಮಾಲೆ. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಓದಿ ನೋಡಿ..

ಕನ್ನಡ ಟಿ-ಶರ್ಟ್

ಕನ್ನಡ ಕವನಗಳ ಸಾಲು ಹೊತ್ತ ಟಿ-ಶರ್ಟ್ ಗಳನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ದಿನಗಳಿಂದ ಹುಡುಕುತಿದ್ದೆ. ಇಂದು ಅಂತಹ ಒಂದನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸಿದ್ದಾಯಿತು. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಒಂದು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲವು ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರ ಪರಿಚಯವೂ ಆಯಿತು. ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕರ ಸಮಿತಿ ಹೊರತಂದಿರುವ ಈ ಟಿ-ಶರ್ಟ್ ಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಒಂದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಆಲೋಚನೆ, ಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಅಡಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಬಳ್ಳಾರಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ, ಬಡ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಎರಡು ಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಸದಸ್ಯರ ದೇಣಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕನ್ನಡ ಟಿ-ಶರ್ಟ್, ಅಂಚೆ ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಗಳ ಮಾರಾಟದಿಂದ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಜ್ಞಾನಾರ್ಜನೆಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿಚಾರವನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ಬರೆಯುವೆ...

F1 is back

After a fantastic season last year where the championship was undecided until the last corner of the brazilian grand prix, F1 is back. After all the pre-season speculations regarding the rules, teams and the money involved in the game, finally the race for the best driver title starts tomorrow at Albert park,Australia.

Too many questions to be answered in this season... Will Hamilton defend his title with a struggling Mclaren??.. Can Ferrari get back the driver championship??..Will Alonso move on to Ferrari next year??.. Have Honda done a real big mistake by selling their team to Brawn GP who looks to be supreme form??... Only time will give the answers..

Dont forget to catch tomorrow's race at 11:30 AM IST..

Update:: Surprise, Surprise..(or is it???? ) Jenson Button on pole for tomorrow's race as Brawn GP take the first row. Will Button win a race after 3 years, the last one being in Hungary ,2006??.

McLaren still struggling with 14and 15th on the grid.. Ferrari at 6th(Massa) and 7th(Kimi).

Been long long time

Yes, it has been more than a month since I wrote my last post on my blog. My blog has been sleeping all these days whereas I have been hardly able to catch some sleep. Sometimes things make your mind so much pre-occupied that you hardly feel interested to do your normal day work let alone updating the blog.

This is just a wake call for my blog and my way of telling the world that am still alive :-P

Btw, recently there has been so much buzz around twitter. Almost everybody looks to be twittering. I thought I should try my hands on twitter too and here I am ...

Hopefully I am keep my twitter updated... Let me know if you are there too...

No Onions Nor Garlic

I escaped from office early today evening just to finish reading the remaining 100 pages of this truly hilarious novel . No Onions Nor Garlic , written by Srividya Natarajan is a total fun , comic novel with loads of I-dont-find-it-in-any-dictionary kind of words (since many of them must be "invented" by the author).

The story revolves around an orthodox professor Ram ( member of TamBrahmAss ;-) ) and his student, Sundar and loads of other characters who find themselves related to these people in one way or the other. Ram wishes to get his daughter, Jay married to Sundar and Sundar is in love with Jiva ,a backward caste girl. Then there comes few more characters and lot of permutations and combinations to add spice to the story.

An absolute timepass novel which made me ROFL in the later half and a bollywood style climax. Strongly recommend this novel if you are missing your daily dose of laughter. My Thanks to Harini for sharing the book

A day of shopping

Monday being republic day,this is an extended weekend and I have my long list of work to be done. No,not official work, but things like reading novels, watching movies and more movies. A new item was added to my list when a friend of mine called up on thursday to check if I can accompany him for shopping... Stop!!!! I know it is weird for two guys to out with the actual intention of "shopping".. The fact is, friend of mine is leaving for US next week and we had to buy loads of stuffs for the journey.

So, our shopping maha-expedition started at around noon from jayanagar. By then, I had already spent an hour at one of the book store and had bought two novels and a movie. We headed towards S.P road, the place to look out for (pirated) electronic and computer goods in search of portable hard disk. And then we moved on to buy DVDs, Game CDs,trolleys, warm clothes, shirts and so on.. It was 9 in the night by the time our list had reached the last item, a mobile phone.. At the end of the day, we together have shopped for around 17K and roamed around whole of Bangalore from Jayanagar to SP Road to Majestic to Koramangala to Commercial Street...

What a day!!! and what a start to my weekend..Time to retire to bed after a tireful day.. :)

ಕನ್ನಡ ಸುಗಮ ಸಂಗೀತ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ವಯಸಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹೆಸರು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದ ರಾಜು ಅನಂತಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರು ತೀರಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ ಸಂಗೀತ ಸಂಯೋಜನೆಕಾರ, ಗಾಯಕ ಮೈಸೂರು ಅನಂತಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಅವರ ಪುತ್ರರಾದ ರಾಜು ತಂದೆಯ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಗಾಯನ, ಗೀತ ಸಂಯೋಜನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎತ್ತಿದ ಕೈ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಸುಗಮ ಸಂಗೀತ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರಿಬ್ಬರ ಹೆಸರು ಅಜರಾಮರ. ಕವಿಗಳ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದ ಕವನಗಳನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಮನೆ-ಮನಗಳಿಗೆ ತಲುಪಿಸಿದ ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಸು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಸೇರಬೇಕು.

ರಾಜು ಅವರ ಹಾಡುಗಾರಿಕೆ ಅವರ ತಂದೆಯವರ ಹಾಡುಗಾರಿಕೆ ಬಹಳ ಹೋಲುತಿತ್ತು. ಹಾರ್ಮೋನಿಯಂ ಮೀಟುತ್ತಾ ರಾಜು ಹಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಕವನದ ಭಾವ-ಭಾವನೆ ಕೇಳುಗನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಾಟುವಂತಿತ್ತು. ಕವಿಯ ಗೀತೆಗೆ ಜೀವ ತುಂಬುವುದು ಇಂತ ಗಾಯಕರು ತಾನೆ... ರಾಜರತ್ನಂರವರ ರತ್ನನ ಪದಗಳು , ಟಿ.ಪಿ.ಕೈಲಾಸಂರವರ ಕವನಗಳನ್ನು ಅನಂತ-ದ್ವಯರ ದನಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಕೇಳಬೇಕು.

"ಭೂಮಿನ್ ತಬಿದ್ ಮೋಡಿದ್ದಂಗೆ ...ಮಡಿಕೇರಿ ಮೇಲ್ ಮಂಜು", "ಕುರಿಗಳು ಸಾರ್ ಕುರಿಗಳು" , "ಯಂಡ ಯದ್ತಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪದಗಳ್" , "ಬದುಕು ಜಟಕಾ ಬಂಡಿ" , " ಎಲ್ಕೊಲ್ಲಕೊಂದೂರು" , "ಬಾ ಮಳೆಯೇ ಬಾ"... ಹೀಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ಗೀತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದ ಮಾಡಿದವರು ಈ ತಂದೆ-ಮಗನ ಜೋಡಿ.. "ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ನಿಂಗೆ ಜೋಡಿಸ್ತೀನಿ ಯಂದ ಮುತ್ತಿದ ಕೈನ" ಎಂದು ಹಾಡಿದ ರಾಜು ಅದೇ ಹೆಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ಬಲಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸ..

ಇಂದು ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಎದ್ದು ಮೊದಲು ನೆನಪಾದದ್ದು ನನ್ನ ಗಾಡಿಗೆ ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಹಾಕಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು.. ನಿನ್ನೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಾರ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಅಭಾವದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೇಳಿ ಕನಸಲ್ಲೂ ನಾನು ಗಾಡಿಯನ್ನು ನೂಕುವ ದೃಶ್ಯ... ಸರಿ ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಬಂಕ್ ಗಾಗಿ ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತಾ ಹೊರಟೆ. ಎಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಿದರೂ ಖಾಲಿ ಬಂಕ್ ಗಳು.. "No Stock" ಫಲಕ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಬಂಕ್ ಗಳು ಯಾವುದೋ ಪಾಳುಬಿದ್ದ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಂತೆ ಭಿಕೋ ಎನ್ನುತಿದ್ದವು. ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಅರಸಿ ಹೊರೆಟ ನನಗೆ ಅರ್ಧ ಗಂಟೆಯ ನಂತರ ಒಂದು ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಹೊಂದಿದ ಬಂಕ್ ಕಂಡಿತು. ಬಂಕ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಜನ ಸಾಗರ. ತಿರುಪತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಂತಂತೆ ಜನ ಸೇರಿದ್ದರು..ಸರಿ, ಅಳಿಯನ ಜೊತೆ ಗೆಳೆಯನಂತೆ ನಾನು ನಿಂತೆ. ಒಂದು ಗಂಟೆಯ ಹರಸಾಹಸದ ನಂತರ ನನ್ನ ಗಾಡಿಗೆ ಎರಡು ಲೀಟರ್ ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಗಿಟ್ಟಿಸೋ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಸಾಕು ಸಾಕಾಗಿ ಹೋಯ್ತು...

ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಗಾಗಿ ಕಾಡು ನಿಂತಾಗ ನನಗೆ ಹೊಳೆದ ಅಂದು ವಿಷಯ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದೆ ಇದುತಿದೇನೆ..ಯಾವುದೇ ಒಂದು ವಸ್ತುವಿನ ಮಾರಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ "Demand-Supply" ಚೈನ್ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಸಮತೋಲನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವವರೆಗೂ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಸುಸೂತ್ರವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ.. ಸಮತೋಲನ ಕಳಚಿದಾಗ ಆ ವಸ್ತುವಿನ ಅಭಾವ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಭಾರಿ ಗ್ರಾಹಕರಾದ ನಮ್ಮಿಂದಲೇ ಇಂತಹ ಅಭಾವ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಅನ್ನೇ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಿ .. ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಸ್ಥಗಿತಗೊಳಿಸಿದರಿಂದ ತೈಲದ ಕೊರತೆ ಉಂಟಾಗಿದ್ದು ನಿಜ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡಂತೆ ಜನರು ಮುಂಜಾಗ್ರತೆಗಾಗಿ ಬಂಕ್ ಗಳಿಗೆ ಧಾವಿಸಿ ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಶೇಖರಿಸಿಕೊಂದರು.. ಜನ ಮುಂದೆ ಸಿಗದೇ ಇರಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಿ ಅಗತ್ಯಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕೊಂಡರು.. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಡಿಮ್ಯಾಂಡು ಜಾಸ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೃತಕ ಅಭಾವ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ..

ಇದು ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಸ್ತುಗಳಿಗೆ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ..ಹೀಗೆ ಒಂದು ಕೃತಕ ಅಭಾವದಿಂದ "ಡಿಮ್ಯಾಂಡು" ಅಥವಾ ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ಜಾಸ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ವಸ್ತುವಿನ ಬೆಲೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತದೆ.. ನಾವು ಅಗತ್ಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಖರೀದಿಸಿ ಶೇಖರಿಸಿಡುವ ಬದಲು ಅಗತ್ಯ ಬಿದ್ದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬೇಕಾದಷ್ಟು ಖರೀದಿಸುವುದು ಸೂಕ್ತವಲ್ಲವೇ??? ಒಂದು ರೀತಿಯ planned buying ಇಂದ ನಾವು ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ಬೆಲೆ ಏರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಸಾದ್ಯವಾದಷ್ಟು ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸಬಹುದು...ಏನಂತೀರಿ...

International Year of Astronomy : IYA-2009

I have always been fascinated by the vastness of the space,energy of the stars, human interpretation of the world around him, the night sky and the list goes on and on...One of my favourite pastime during my school days was to sleep under the clear night sky and try to identify the various constellations and stars..My tiny step towards becoming a astronomer :-P


The rather boring preface was to mention that 2009 is being celebrated as the International Year of Astronomy (IYA 2009) , to remember the first use of the telescope by Galileo ,400 years ago. Check out the IYA2009 site for more information , videos and photos..

Also there is a long series of podcast that run each day of the year 2009 to celebrate IYA. This is definitely a great chance to know more about the infinite space.. Check out 365 days of astronomy site for the daily podcast...

ಹೊಸ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದೇ ಹಳೆ ಪಾಡು..

ಕಳೆದ ಎರಡು ವಾರಗಳಿಂದ ನಿದ್ದೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ರಸ್ತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಎಬ್ಬಿಸಲು ಐ.ಟಿ ಕಂಪನಿ ವಾಹನಗಳು ಮತ್ತೆ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಕುಸಿತದ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಹಣ ಉಳಿಸಲು ಹೊಸ ವರ್ಷದ ಆಚರಣೆಯ ಸಬೂಬು ಹೇಳಿ ರಜೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳು ಇಂದಿನಿಂದ ಮತ್ತೆ ಶುರು.. ( ಇನ್ನು ಎಷ್ಟು ದಿನಗಳವರೆಗೋ...), ಸೊ ಬ್ಯಾಂಗಲೋರ್ ಟ್ರಾಫಿಕ್ ಇಸ್ ಬ್ಯಾಕ್... ಹೊಸ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಮೆ ವೇಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆಗೆ ರೇಸ್ ಮಾಡುವ ಸುಯೋಗ ನಮ್ಮದು ನಿಮ್ಮದು.. ಮಸ್ತ್ ಮಜಾ ಮಾಡಿ

ಬಹುಶಃ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕೂಡ ಟ್ರಾಫಿಕ್ ಜಾಮ್ ಅನ್ನು ಮಿಸ್ ಮಾಡುತಿತ್ತೋ ಏನೋ...
